Kid Friendly Hiking & Swimming:
DEER CREEK MINER'S TRAIL: Nevada City near
Broad, Boulder and Sacramento Streets. Relive the
experiences of 49ers, 15 to 30 minutes.

ROCK CREEK: Off Hwy. 20 on Conservation Camp
Rd, six miles east of Nevada City. Less than a mile,
info about flora and fauna and local history,
brochure at site.

SIERRA DISCOVERY TRAIL: Hwy. 20 out of Nevada
City to Bowman Lake Road. PG&E community
service project, less than one-mile loop, interpretive
signs, waterfall, restrooms, picnic area with
barbecue on Bear River.

BRIDGEPORT  Hwy. 20 out of Grass Valley to Penn
Valley, right on Pleasant Valley Road, then eight
miles. Buttermilk Trail 1.25 miles each way, fairly
flat, favorite spring wildflower hike, access to
swimming holes, information at ranger station.
Great swimming area.

INDEPENDENCE TRAIL  Off Hwy 49 just North of
Nevada City is a remarkable trail which provides
wheelchair access to nearly five miles of the Yuba
River Canyon.  Great for young children as it is
stroller friendly.  The trail features waterfalls, scenic
vistas, and a gentle switchback descent to a
mountain stream on a wooden flume.  Outhouses
with full wheelchair access are located at several
points along the trail.

OREGON CREEK, a McNitt family favorite, about 30
miles on Hwy 49 towards Downieville at the
confluence of the Yuba River and Oregon Creek, old
covered bridge, picnic area and vault toilets.  Good
play area for the hesitant swimmer as well as slow
rapids for the older kids, easy water access.  Good
spots fill early.
